Revealed: Beyond the Glass Horizon
7 to 25 March 26
My work surprises me every time. I start and have no idea where it will take me. I don’t think architecturally which I thought I might initially, like with my glass designs. Rather I paint with serendipity and only the last layer and touches have me seeing with a rational eye.

Revealed: Beyond the Glass Horizon
Although I obtained a fine arts degree from the University of California at Berkeley in lithography, when I moved permanently to New Zealand in 1974, instead, I spent over 40 productive years self-employed designing and producing contemporary architectural glass windows for residences and public buildings here and overseas. Life is full of surprises. The University of Auckland, Hamilton City Council and the Auckland District Court were among some of the major commissions. They were exciting and very demanding years.
Two years ago, finally - with mixed sadness and relief, I decided to make a change in my life and sold all the beautiful handblown imported sheet glass stored and waiting in crates in my studio. It has taken me since then to readjust, rethink and embark on a new creative path – and works in this exhibition are some examples of the result.
Painting on paper (no storage crates required) has been refreshing, free and unpressured compared to the years of the rigours of glass as a medium and the deadlines of commissions.
