My name is Angelika. I am originally from Germany and have been living in New Zealand for over 30 years.
Painting in the form of visual art has been a means to provide a balance to my work as a Psychotherapist and an expression of myself.
For most of my life, I have been interested in colour and how it impacts on our moods and well-being.
My art has been influenced by my work, my love for travelling and the spiritual and unseen world.
Since my retirement, I have been able to spend more time to enhance and develop my art and creativity.
My Approach
I paint primarily with acrylics on canvas and enjoy the process of intuitive painting which means for me painting from the ‘inside’ ‘out’.
I apply layers of paints to create depth and structure which points to the complexity and depth of the human psyche and the complexity of life itself.
My art would be best described as naïve or whimsical art, showing images and shapes which do not reflect the world as we see it with our physical eyes but more so with our ‘inner’ eyes and is deliberately kept distorted.
My art is about people and nature, the seen and unseen.
And, as the language of the soul, in a world of chaos and destruction, my paintings aim to point to and express the deeper longing in every one of us which is the longing for peace and joy, unity and wholeness.
My painting comes from my heart and aims to touch people’s hearts.
My other passions are dancing Tango and gardening.
