The prophecy at Rangihoua Pā foretold the coming of Europeans to Aotearoa. The inhabitants described seeing a being with fiery eyes and love in his heart, who told them to name the Pā 'The Gates of Heaven’ and the bay below, ‘Oihi’ (Shout He has Risen).

Hundreds of years later, in 1814, Māori and Europeans celebrated the first Christian service in New Zealand at Oihi Bay, a significant moment in the nation's history, a prophecy fulfilled.
