Great Grandmother
Paternal side – Lillian Murdoch Pascoe b.1887 (Auckland) d. 1977 (Auckland)
The first child of Jane and Samuel Pascoe to be born in Aotearoa New Zealand. We called her Big Nana because she was tall. She loved reading us stories. Lillian was a great gardener and we still have descendants of her rhubarb. She made doilies, embroidered and sewed. Big Nana
worked at Reid Rubber and was also a farmers wife at Waiuku, Āwhitu Peninsula.
In her later years she lived independently and was still mowing her own lawn with a hand mower at 80 years of age.
Maternal side- Rose Ellen nee Beams b.1870 (Bath, England) d.1965 (Auckland)
Rose travelled to Aotearoa, New Zealand in 1910 with her husband and young daughter Hilda aged 6 years old. Her husband worked with the railways and they settled in Rangataua, near Orakune. Rose was a skilled seamstress and tailor for men’s clothes, which was a rarity in her day. Rose was also a keen gardener.
